EON Instrumentation Secures $7 Million Redesign and Production Contract for PCAB Interference Blanking Technology Upgrade in AEGIS Program

EON Instrumentation continues to solidify its position as a leader in military electronic systems. With the recent award of a $7 million Redesign and Production contract from NSWC Crane Division for the Pre-Trigger Converter and Blanker (PCAB) in the AEGIS Program. This contract follows EON’s successful development and Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract for the PCAB. Therefore, positioning the company as the prime contractor for this mission-critical interference blanking system.

What is the PCAB System?

The PCAB, also known as the SLA-10D unit. It is a sophisticated interference blanker. Designed to replace the legacy SLA-10B unit in the AEGIS system. The AEGIS Combat System relies on seamless electronic coordination to maintain superior radar, communication, and electronic warfare capabilities. The PCAB ensures that multiple high-frequency signals coexist without interference. Therefore, preventing electronic self-jamming and maximising operational effectiveness.

EON Instrumentation first secured a PCAB Production contract valued at $6.5 million in 2017. This new Redesign and Production contract marks the next phase in modernising interference blanking technology for the U.S. Navy’s AEGIS program.

Key Functions and Advantages of PCAB Interference Blanking Technology Upgrade

  • Interference Management: The PCAB system actively mitigates electromagnetic interference (EMI) between multiple onboard transmitters and receivers.
  • Enhanced Signal Clarity: Prevents overlapping signals from degrading mission-critical radar and communication systems.
  • Seamless System Integration: Designed to fit within the AEGIS architecture while improving electronic performance.
  • Advanced Programmability: Allows for real-time adjustments to interference blanking parameters, ensuring adaptability in dynamic operational environments.

EON Instrumentation’s Role in the PCAB Program

EON will execute the Redesign and Production contract from its headquarters in Van Nuys, California. In addition, at its facility in Oceanside, California. Speaking on the contract award, EON’s President and CEO, Greg Ford, stated:

“The US Navy continues to look to EON Instrumentation for critical support such as the PCAB Redesign and Production contract for the AEGIS system. EON was privileged to be selected for the initial development and LRIP PCAB contract and a follow-on Production contract. EON is honored that the Navy selected EON for the PCAB Redesign and Production contract. This award further enhances EON’s reputation as the leading designer and builder of Interference Blanker Units for military platforms.”

Why This Matters

The AEGIS Combat System is a cornerstone of the U.S. Navy’s Defense strategy. Interference blanking technology plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal system performance. EON Instrumentation’s continued involvement in the program underscores its expertise in electronic warfare and mission-critical interference blanking solutions.
