Don’t Test Your Circuit Board until you’ve tried this!

Video snap shot of Huntron Workstation and setting up PCB Connector testing

I recently watched a video published by Huntron, the masters of Power-off PCB Diagnostic and Troubleshooting Tool instruments.  The video titled “How to use a Tracker 3200S to test a PCB Connector.”

I thought it unusual that the demonstrator would test the PCB Connector first.  However, I quickly learned that the PCB Connector is an essential component of a circuit board.  Firstly, it is responsible for connecting various components of the board to one another or to external devices.  Therefore, if a PCB connector is faulty, it can cause issues with the overall performance of the circuit board or prevent it from functioning altogether.

Reasons for testing the PCB Connector before the Circuit Board

  1. To ensure the connector is functioning properly and is providing a reliable connection.
  2. Identify potential issues with the connector ie. Poor soldering, loose connections
  3. Allows you to isolate and focus on specific component – making it easier to identify and diagnose any issues that may be present. For example, just looking at the connector and determining an issue rather than the entire circuit board.

Why you should consider the Huntron Tracker 3200S as part of your toolset for PCB or Circuit Board Repair

As an electronic technician, you understand the importance of having reliable and efficient tools for circuit board repair. One such tool that has become increasingly popular in recent years is the Huntron Tracker 3200S. This device is a versatile and powerful instrument.  Firstly, it can help you quickly identify faults and troubleshoot issues in a circuit board.

Easy to Use

First and foremost, the Huntron Tracker 3200S is incredibly easy to use. Its intuitive interface and straightforward operation make it accessible for both novice and experienced technicians.

Scanning Function + Signature Analysis Mode of PCBs

The device features a range of scanning functions, including a signature analysis mode, which allows you to scan and compare a known good board with a potentially faulty one. This can help you quickly identify any differences and pinpoint the source of the issue.

Measures – Resistance, Capacitance and Inductance

In addition to its scanning capabilities, the Huntron Tracker 3200S also has a range of other useful features. For example, it can measure resistance, capacitance, and inductance, as well as perform diode testing. This versatility makes it an excellent all-in-one device for troubleshooting and diagnosing a wide range of issues.

Recall Previous Circuit Board Scans

Another great feature of the Huntron Tracker 3200S is its ability to store and recall previous scans. This can be incredibly useful when working on a complex circuit board, as it allows you to compare scans and identify any changes or trends over time. You can also save and share scan data with colleagues, which can be helpful for collaboration and problem-solving.

Minimise further damage – Power Off Testing

Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of the Huntron Tracker 3200S is its non-invasive testing method. Unlike other testing methods that require you to remove components or apply electrical current to the board, the Huntron Tracker 3200S simply uses voltage and current to measure the board’s characteristics. This can help to minimize the risk of damaging components or causing further issues.

Conclusion

Overall, the Huntron Tracker 3200S is an excellent product to use for circuit board repair. Its ease of use, versatility, and non-invasive testing method make it a valuable tool for electronic technicians of all levels. Whether you’re repairing a simple board or troubleshooting a complex issue, the Huntron Tracker 3200S can help you quickly and efficiently identify faults and get your board back up and running.
