Rugged Display 32″ ARD32

The Spectra ARD32 is a 32″ rugged 4K display for naval, airborne and ground-mobile defence applications. Featuring a 31.5″ viewable screen, native 3840 × 2160 resolution at up to 60 Hz and brightness up to 1000 nits.  It presents detailed mission information in demanding environments.

Its fully enclosed IP66 aluminium housing uses passive cooling, while configurable video inputs, mounting arrangements and optional touchscreens support integration into command and control systems.

The ARD32 rugged 4K display provides a large viewing area for mission information, sensor imagery, tactical maps and video feeds. Its native 4K UHD resolution delivers four times the pixel count of Full HD, supporting detailed visualisation across command and control applications.

Designed as a modifiable commercial off-the-shelf platform, the ARD32 combines commercial display technology with rugged construction. This approach supports application-specific customisation, long-term availability and sustainment.

The fully enclosed aluminium chassis has no fans or external ventilation openings. Consequently, it supports operation in environments where shock, vibration, dust, moisture and temperature variation must be considered.

Key Features

  • 32″ display format: A 31.5″ viewable diagonal provides a large area for mission-system information.
  • Native 4K UHD resolution: 3840 × 2160 pixels at up to 60 Hz for detailed imagery.
  • High-brightness viewing: Maximum published brightness of 1000 nits, with sunlight-readable performance and a wide viewing angle.
  • High contrast: Contrast ratio greater than 1400:1.
  • Configurable video inputs: HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, DVI-I and 3G-SDI, with additional interface options.
  • IP66 aluminium enclosure: Fully enclosed construction with passive cooling and no fans.
  • Flexible installation: Panel, flush or rack mounting, with downward or rearward connector orientation.
  • Optional touchscreen: Analog resistive or projected capacitive multi-touch.
  • Night-vision option: MIL-STD-3009 Class B filtered backlighting for NVIS compatibility.
  • Cold-start heating: Optional heaters support operation down to −40°C.

Detailed Visualisation in Day and Night Conditions

The ARD32 combines LED backlighting, high brightness and a wide viewing angle to support the presentation of mission information in bright conditions. In addition, its 4K UHD resolution helps operators interpret detailed maps, imagery and video.

For night operations, an optional MIL-STD-3009 Class B filtered backlight provides NVIS compatibility. Programmable bezel buttons can also incorporate dimmable NVIS-compatible backlighting.

These options allow the display and its controls to be configured for the platform’s lighting conditions and operator requirements.

Flexible Video and Operator Interfaces

The ARD32 supports configurable video connectivity for integration with mission computers and video sources. Published interfaces include HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, DVI-I and 3G-SDI. Furthermore, Spectra identifies optional VGA, CVBS and ARINC 818 inputs for application-specific requirements.

RS-232 enables remote control, while optional RS-232, RS-422 or USB interfaces support touchscreen and bezel-button functions.

Operators can use the standard power and brightness/menu controls. Alternatively, programmable bezel buttons provide user-defined placement and symbology to suit the application.

Designed for Installation Across Air, Land and Sea

Panel, flush and rack mounting options help accommodate different console layouts. Downward or rearward connector orientations also provide flexibility where cable routing and installation depth are constrained.

The ARD32 weighs approximately 12.7 kg and measures 737 × 457 × 84 mm. Optional removable handles assist with transport and installation.

Its sealed, passively cooled enclosure eliminates cooling fans and ventilation openings. Meanwhile, optional cold-start heaters extend low-temperature operation for installations requiring a wider operating range.

Typical Applications

The ARD32 rugged 4K display is suitable for:

  • Naval mission systems: Shipboard operator consoles, mission visualisation and command and control displays.
  • Airborne platforms: Mission information, sensor imagery and situational awareness displays.
  • Ground-mobile systems: Vehicle-mounted command and control consoles.
  • Deployed command environments: Large-format presentation of mission data and video within integrated systems.

Configuration Options

Metromatics can assist with selecting the ARD32 configuration for your platform. Available customisation options include:

  • Analog resistive or projected capacitive multi-touch screens.
  • NVIS-compatible backlighting.
  • Programmable bezel buttons with customised placement and symbology.
  • Cold-start heaters.
  • Application-specific connectors and I/O.
  • Downward or rearward connector orientation.
