Ultra Rugged microNAS G2

The G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS combines high-bandwidth recording, network-attached storage, and edge server capability in a compact sealed enclosure.

Designed to support multi-sensor platforms while minimising SWaP in demanding deployed environments.

The G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS from Spectra Defense Technologies (formerly Galleon Embedded Computing) is a compact network attached storage (NAS) system.  Designed for high-bandwidth sensor data capture and removable mission storage workflows.  As well as distributed edge storage across airborne, maritime, land, and autonomous platforms. Importantly, the platform supports deployment in environments where reliable onboard storage and efficient sensor integration are critical.

In addition, the system supports simultaneous multi-sensor ingest.  Achieved through integrated 10 GbE interfaces and removable NVMe storage modules up to 16 TB.  Thereby enabling deployment as a secure, high-performance storage node within ISR, autonomy, and instrumentation architectures.

The G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS forms part of the broader Galleon rugged mission computers, data recorders, and storage systems platform, supporting deployable sensor and ISR architectures across defence and autonomy applications.

Metromatics supplies Spectra Defense Technologies rugged storage solutions across Australia and New Zealand, providing local technical support and integration guidance where required.

Key Features of the G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS

The G2 platform combines ruggedisation, high-bandwidth connectivity, and removable storage flexibility in a compact enclosure. Specifically, key features include:

  • Compact ultra rugged network attached storage (NAS) system
  • Four integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for simultaneous sensor ingest
  • Support for removable NVMe storage modules up to 16 TB
  • Configurable operation as microNAS, microRecorder, or microServer
  • Support for hardware and software full-disk encryption
  • Sealed enclosure rated IP66 / IP67
  • Designed to meet MIL-STD-461 EMI/RFI requirements
  • Compatible with MIL-STD-704 aircraft power
  • Compatible with MIL-STD-1275 vehicle power
  • Operating temperature range −40 °C to +71 °C
  • Supported operation up to 60,000 ft altitude

As a result, these capabilities allow the G2 to function as a deployable edge storage platform for multi-sensor environments without requiring external switching infrastructure.

The G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS combines recorder-class ingest bandwidth with distributed NAS storage and edge server functionality within a single platform.

Designed for Multi-Sensor Storage Architectures

Modern platforms frequently generate large volumes of data from multiple payload sources. To support these requirements, the G2 integrates four 10 GbE interfaces that enable simultaneous ingest from:

  • EO/IR payloads
  • radar systems
  • LIDAR sensors
  • SIGINT receivers
  • telemetry networks
  • distributed sensor arrays

Consequently, the system can operate as a centralised onboard storage node within sensor networks while simultaneously simplifying integration and reducing overall system complexity.

Removable NVMe Storage for Mission Workflows

The G2 supports removable NVMe storage modules with capacities up to 16 TB, therefore enabling:

  • rapid extraction of mission data
  • reduced platform turnaround time
  • simplified ground-station transfer workflows
  • support for secure removable storage handling procedures

In practice, removable storage modules are particularly useful in deployment scenarios.  Especially, where large sensor datasets must be transferred quickly between operational platforms and processing environments.

Flexible Operating Modes

The G2 Ultra Rugged microNAS supports multiple deployment roles depending on integration requirements. Accordingly, the same platform can be configured to support different mission architectures.

microNAS Mode

Operates as a shared onboard storage node supporting distributed sensor architectures.

microRecorder Mode

Supports high-speed capture of multiple sensor streams through integrated 10 GbE interfaces.

microServer Mode

Provides a Linux-based storage and processing platform supporting edge data handling workflows.

Together, these operating modes allow a single hardware platform to support multiple integration roles across different vehicle and payload configurations.

Engineered for Harsh Defence Environments

The enclosure is designed for deployment across demanding environmental conditions typical of defence platforms. For example, the system supports:

  • sealed IP66 / IP67 enclosure
  • extended temperature operation from −40 °C to +71 °C
  • EMI/RFI compliance aligned with MIL-STD-461
  • compatibility with MIL-STD-704 aircraft power
  • compatibility with MIL-STD-1275 vehicle power
  • operation up to 60,000 ft altitude

Therefore, these characteristics support installation across:

  • airborne ISR payload systems
  • tactical land vehicles
  • maritime topside installations
  • unmanned platforms

Secure Storage for Deployed Platforms

The G2 supports layered encryption options including:

  • hardware full-disk encryption
  • software full-disk encryption
  • secure removable storage modules

Accordingly, these features support deployment in environments requiring protected handling of onboard sensor data.
