XMC640 10-Gigabit Ethernet Network Interface Card
The Acromag XMC640 Ethernet Network Interface Card adds two or four high-speed 10GbE fibre-optic connections to XMC-based embedded computing systems. Designed for high-performance COTS applications, the rugged module combines an Intel® XL710 controller, PCIe Gen 3 x8 connectivity and extended-temperature operation for defence, aerospace, industrial and scientific computing systems.
High-speed Ethernet connectivity for embedded systems
The XMC640 Series provides a compact, high-density networking solution for embedded computers requiring multiple 10-Gigabit Ethernet connections.
Two models are available. The XMC642 provides two fibre-optic Ethernet interfaces, while the XMC644 provides four. Both models use rugged fibre-optic transceivers with duplex PC and UPC LC cable support.
At the centre of the module is the Intel XL710 Ethernet controller. Its advanced traffic steering, virtualisation and intelligent offload capabilities help increase transaction rates, reduce latency and lower the processing demand placed on the host CPU.
In addition, the PCIe x8 Gen 3 host interface provides the bandwidth required to move network traffic between the Ethernet controller and the embedded computing system. The total aggregate data rate is ultimately limited by the PCIe host interface.
Key features and benefits
- Two or four independent 10GbE ports: Select the port density that suits the networking requirements and available space within the embedded system.
- Intel XL710 Ethernet controller: Provides advanced networking, virtualisation and intelligent offload functions for demanding embedded applications.
- PCIe x8 Gen 3 host interface: Supports high-speed communication between the Ethernet Network Interface Card and its host processor.
- 10GBASE-SX fibre connectivity: Duplex LC connectors support fibre-optic network connections using an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and PIN receiver.
- Extended fibre reach: Supports typical distances of 82 metres with OM2 fibre, 300 metres with OM3 fibre and 400 metres with OM4 fibre.
- Advanced traffic steering: Helps increase transaction rates and reduce latency in high-traffic network environments.
- Processor offloading: Transmit and receive checksum offloads for IP, TCP, UDP and SCTP traffic help reduce host-processor usage across IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
- Network virtualisation support: Includes VMDq, dynamic load balancing and PCI-SIG SR-IOV flexible port partitioning.
- Precision timing: Supports IEEE 1588 and IEEE 802.1AS precision timing functions.
- Jumbo frame support: Handles packet sizes up to 9.5 KB for applications using larger Ethernet frames.
- Energy Efficient Ethernet: Supports IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet functionality.
- Extended-temperature operation: Operates from −40°C to 85°C with 200 LFM airflow.
- Linux and Windows support: Intel XL710 controller drivers are available for both operating systems.
