Rugged 3U VPX Blackwell GPU Module for Embedded Compute & Graphics

Model: VPX3U-BW5000E-VO-HPC | WOLF-1636

The WOLF-1636 is a rugged 3U VPX Blackwell GPU module that brings NVIDIA RTX 5000 Blackwell processing into embedded compute and graphics systems. It combines 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, configurable PCIe connectivity and front or rear DisplayPort routing for AI, high-performance computing, graphics, video and visualisation workloads.

Blackwell processing in a rugged 3U VPX module

Embedded systems increasingly need to process large data sets close to the sensor while also supporting graphics and display output. This rugged 3U VPX Blackwell GPU module addresses both requirements by integrating an NVIDIA RTX 5000 Blackwell embedded GPU into a conduction cooled 3U VPX module.

The GPU provides CUDA cores for parallel processing and fifth-generation Tensor Cores for AI and data science workloads. Its 24 GB of ECC capable GDDR7 memory supports applications that need substantial onboard graphics and compute memory without moving processing to a separate commercial workstation.

What to confirm before ordering the 1636 rugged 3U VPX Blackwell GPU module

The correct WOLF-1636 configuration depends on the chassis, backplane and intended workload. Confirm the following before ordering:

  • SOSA-aligned or OpenVPX slot profile
  • PCIe x8 or x16 host connection
  • front-panel, rear-backplane or combined display routing
  • rear DisplayPort or HDMI requirements
  • chassis cooling capacity across the selected 90–150 W power envelope
  • operating system, CUDA and application-software requirements
  • conformal-coating and variant-locking requirements

QuestionAnswer
When is the WOLF-1636 a suitable choice? It suits embedded systems that need NVIDIA Blackwell GPU compute together with mission-display outputs. If high-rate Ethernet data movement is the main requirement, a GPU module with an integrated SmartNIC may be more appropriate.
Does every configuration provide the same rear video outputs? No. Rear video routing depends on the selected OpenVPX profile and build configuration.
Is the WOLF-1636 air cooled? The supplier describes the WOLF-1636 as a rugged conduction-cooled module. The final chassis and thermal design must support the selected power configuration.

The WOLF-1636 is intended for systems that need GPU compute and integrated display output in the same payload module. Typical uses may include AI inference, sensor-data processing, image exploitation, data science and mission visualisation, subject to the wider system architecture and software stack.

For example, a platform may use the GPU to process incoming sensor data and then present analysed information to an operator display. In that design, the required PCIe data path, display routing and sustained thermal load need to be planned together.

  • 10,496 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor Cores and 80 RT Cores
  • 24 GB GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit bus with ECC support
  • CUDA Toolkit 13 and compute capability 12.0
  • CUDA-X AI and CUDA-X HPEC libraries
  • NVENC and NVDEC hardware video encode/decode support
  • NVIDIA GPUDirect RDMA support
  • Linux and Windows driver support

A removable front panel provides direct DisplayPort access for integration, laboratory work or an operator display. Selected OpenVPX configurations can route DisplayPort links through the rear backplane, with rear HDMI available as a configuration option.

Because the slot profile determines how PCIe lanes and display signals reach the backplane, it should be selected as an I/O-routing decision rather than treated only as a mechanical requirement.

  • PCIe Gen4 connectivity with x8 or x16 profiles, depending on configuration
  • Front-panel DisplayPort outputs under a removable cover
  • Rear DisplayPort routing through selected OpenVPX profiles
  • SOSA-aligned profile support for 14.6.11-0 and 14.6.13-0
  • OpenVPX 14.2.7 profile support
  • IPMI system management

The standard module is conduction cooled and designed for harsh embedded environments. WOLF specifies a standard operating range from −40°C to +70°C, with operation to +85°C, together with VITA 47.1 Class V3 random-vibration performance and 40G shock testing to MIL-STD-810H Method 516.8.

  • 3U VPX dimensions: 160 × 100 × 25.4 mm
  • Approximate weight: 1.3 kg
  • Configurable module power range: 90–150 W
  • ANSI/VITA 48 and VITA 65 support
