Advancements in 3U VPX SBC with Graphics Capability
Since the release of the WOLF Advanced Technology 3UVPX-XAVIER-SBC, there have been several advancements in GPGPU video graphics modules taking embedded computing systems to another level. Particularly focusing on increased performance, efficiency, and enhanced AI capabilities.
- NVIDIA Ampere Architecture: The NVIDIA Ampere-based modules, such as the VPX3U-A4500E-CX7, have introduced significant improvements in performance and efficiency. These modules feature up to 5888 CUDA cores, 184 Tensor cores, and 46 Ray Tracing cores. The Ampere architecture provides better power efficiency, delivering up to 154 GFLOPS per watt, nearly doubling the performance per watt compared to the previous Turing generation.
- NVIDIA Ada Architecture: The newer NVIDIA Ada-based modules, like the VPX3U-AD5000E-CX7, offer further enhancements with up to 9728 CUDA cores, 304 Tensor cores, and 76 Ray Tracing cores. These modules are designed for high-performance embedded computing (HPEC) and AI processing, with improved efficiency due to the TSMC 4N manufacturing process. They also support up to 100GbE Ethernet and PCIe Gen4, allowing for faster and more secure data transfers.
- Enhanced Connectivity and System Management: Both Ampere and Ada modules include the NVIDIA ConnectX-7 SmartNIC, which provides advanced networking capabilities, such as RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) and PCIe Gen4 switches. These features facilitate high-speed data transfers and efficient system management, crucial for data-heavy applications like sensor processing and AI-driven tasks.
- Improved Cooling and Ruggedisation: The latest modules use advanced materials and cooling techniques. Such as WOLF Advanced Metal, to reduce thermal resistance and allow GPUs to operate at higher power levels. As well as offering conduction cooled and air cooled options. This results in better performance under harsh conditions, making these modules suitable for Aerospace and Defence applications .
These advancements have resulted in modules that are more powerful, efficient, and capable of handling complex AI and video processing tasks, meeting the increasing demands of high-performance embedded systems. To see the full current 3U VPX GPGPU Video/Graphics Module range, click here.
